Lifelong Learning: Empowering Our Workforce, Investing in Our Future
There is an increasing need to connect people to education and lifelong skill-building opportunities to ensure they are well-equipped to participate in our ever-evolving economy. Lansing residents deserve opportunities and support to access pathways to quality jobs with quality wages.
Furthering one's education through a skilled trades program, community college, or a four-year degree is one of the best tools for increasing opportunities and lifetime earnings. Reducing barriers to education for Lansing residents is crucial to raising our city’s median household income.
We can work together across sectors to:
-
Create stronger coalitions between educators, workforce agencies, and employers to ensure education and workforce training are aligned with emerging skill needs.
-
Advocate for funding to improve access to early workforce exposure readiness programs to ensure young people have the opportunity to gain skills and learn about different career pathways.
-
Double down on ensuring literacy programs are accessible to children, adults, and non-English speakers.
-
Partner with local businesses, community colleges, trade schools, and unions to create apprenticeship programs and job placement pathways.
