Building a Smarter, More Accessible Transportation Future
Getting around our city on a day-to-day basis, along with how visitors navigate it, is a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of life. As car ownership costs soar, we must assess our methods of traveling from point A to point B. Effective transportation options are vital to ensuring that the people of Lansing have equitable access to social and economic opportunities throughout the region. Unfortunately, our city’s design prioritizes congested traffic and disconnection.
A city that favors a car-centric design alienates many individuals from contributing to our city's culture and benefitting from growth. However, if something can be designed, it can also be redesigned with everyone in mind.
Whether you get around Lansing by car, bus, scooter, wheelchair, or on foot, you deserve a safe, efficient, and cost-effective commute.
We all deserve a city built with community connectivity, safety, and diversity at its core.
Together, we can work to:
-
Audit existing transit routes to increase connectivity to isolated parts of the city.
-
Collaborate with organizations representing individuals with disabilities to improve accessibility beyond ADA compliance.
-
Support policies and infrastructure for bike lanes, walking paths, and pedestrian-friendly zones to reduce car dependency and encourage healthier alternatives.
-
Implement new parking strategies to encourage patronage of local businesses.
